CTS-Dayton receives tissue from all branch locations and recovery partners. Tissue is stored until all laboratory results have been evaluated and donor records have been reviewed. Once the results and records have been reviewed, the medical director may release the tissue for processing into transplantable allografts.

Processing is divided into four key areas: Central Supply, Processing, Quality Control, and Distribution.

Central Sterile Supply
The main function of the sterile central supply department is to sterilize supplies used for the recovery and processing of donated tissue.

Processing

CTS uses aseptic technique to recover and process tissue according to AATB (American Association of Tissue Banks) and AORN (Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses) standards.

Aseptic processing is accomplished in our state-of-the-art Class 100 clean rooms. Each donor is processed individually to comply with FDA and AATB standards.

The tissue is fashioned into needed grafts, cleansed in various solutions, including Allowash, a patented tissue cleaning system, and packaged.

Processing - Specialty Grafts
By using a CNC (Computerized Numeric Cutting ) machine, CTS is able to make customized grafts specifically designed for special surgeries.
Processing – Skin Grafts
Skin is processed as either meshed or non-meshed grafts. During skin processing, skin is measured, trimmed and packaged.
Processing - Bone Putty
The production of bone putty is a multi-step process. Cortical bone is ground and demineralized to remove extraneous minerals, and then mixed to form a thick putty consistency. It is loaded into syringes, packaged, and irradiated.

Quality
Quality control steps ensure that all process parameters are met by CTS. Both equipment and tissue grafts undergo testing. Our on site CLIA-certified microbiology laboratory processes over 67,000 cultures each year for all phases of tissue processing. Tissue is released for distribution only after all quality checks have been found acceptable.

Distribution

Prior to distribution, all allografts are thoroughly inspected for package integrity, quality, and proper labeling. Grafts are stored in distribution until an order is received. Customer Service Representatives are available to assist doctors and hospitals with their allograft needs.
