Community Tissue Services Receives A Presidential Green Chemistry Award
DAYTON, OH — (October 31, 2007) Community Tissue Services (CTS) was recently awarded a Presidential Green Chemistry Award for environmentally benign medical sterilization using supercritical carbon dioxide. CTS works closely with Nova Sterilis, the New York-based company who developed the Nova 2200 instrument used to sterilize human tissues. CTS was the first tissue bank in the nation to purchase the Nova 2200™.
The Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards Program is an opportunity for individuals, groups, and organizations to compete for annual awards in recognition of innovation in cleaner, cheaper, smarter chemistry. The Challenge Awards Program provides national recognition for outstanding chemical technologies that incorporate the principles of green chemistry into chemical design, manufacture, and use that have been or can be utilized by industry to achieve its pollution prevention goals.
CTS is currently validating the sterilization process and will begin to utilize the technology in the coming months. The Nova2200™ instrument will replace gamma irradiation for sterilizing some types of tendon and ligament grafts produced at CTS.
