Dr. Judith Woll Receives The American Association Of Tissue Banks' Kennth W. Sell Memorial Award

DAYTON, OH — (August 21, 2007) Community Blood Center/Community Tissue Services (CBC/CTS) is pleased to announce Judith E. Woll, M.D., Chief Executive Officer of CBC/CTS, is the recipient of the American Association of Tissue Banks’ 2007 Kenneth W. Sell Memorial Award.

The American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) is a scientific, not-for-profit, peer group organization founded in 1976 to facilitate the provision of transplantable cells and tissues of uniform high quality in quantities sufficient to meet national needs.
This award is given annually to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the development of tissue banking standards, the inspection and accreditation of tissue banks, and/or the education and certification of tissue banking personnel to ensure the quality, safety and availability of cells and tissue for transplantation. In Dr. Woll’s 20 years in tissue banking, she has served AATB as a member of the Board and of several committees, including Chair of the Standards Committee. She has expanded the role of physicians in tissue banking, including stimulating the formation of a Physician Council in AATB. At CBC/CTS, she has expanded the size and scope of the organization, to one of the five largest tissue banks in the US, and the single largest not-for-profit supplier of skin for burn patients.

Dr. Woll joined CBC/CTS in 1994.  Prior to this appointment, Dr. Woll served as the principal officer for American Red Cross Blood Services, Rochester, New York region.  This region also had a small tissue bank.  Dr. Woll began her career with the American Red Cross in 1988 as a director of the Rochester region.  Previously, Dr. Woll was a clinician with Highland Hospital in Rochester, where she served as associate director (1974-75) and director (1975-88) of hematology/oncology and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Rochester.

In addition to her administrative position at CBC/CTS, Dr. Woll serves as a Clinical Professor of Pathology and Internal Medicine at Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton.

Dr. Woll is a member of several community service, academic and professional organizations.  In Ohio, she serves on the board of trustees of Downtown Dayton Partnership, the Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association, the Foundation for Community Blood Center/Community Tissue Services, the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Dayton.  Nationally, she serves on the board of directors for the Pacific Northwest Transplant Bank.  She previously served on the board of directors for America’s Blood Centers, as well as American Association of Tissue Banks.  Also, Dr. Woll is a member of the Montgomery County Medical Society, Ohio State Medical Association, American Medical Association, American Association of Blood Banks, America’s Blood Centers, and American Association of Tissue Banks. 

Dr. Woll earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Brown University, Providence, R.I., followed by her degree as a M.D. from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine.  Through her training, Dr. Woll served internships and residencies at Roosevelt Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital in New York City and a fellowship in Hematology at the University of Rochester. She is Board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, Medical Oncology and Transfusion Medicine.
