Community Tissue Services Expands Into Pennsylvania
DAYTON, OH - Effective August 1, 2003, Community Tissue Services began procuring and supplying donated tissue to the Philadelphia region. This was made possible by the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center Tissue Bank’s (UPMC-TB) transfer of assets to CTS. The newly acquired tissue bank will be known as Community Tissue Services – Pennsylvania, located at 3508 Market Street, Suite 490, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 19104, formerly occupied by the UPMC-TB. Community Tissue Services is a component of Community Blood Center (CBC/CTS), a nonprofit organization headquartered in Dayton, OH. For more than ten years, CTS has worked closely with UPMC-TB processing and supplying tissue for their local needs.
“Because we have enjoyed a long standing relationship with UPMC–TB, it is appropriate that we continue to serve the Philadelphia community. The transition should run smoothly because we are familiar with the daily operations of the UPMC-TB and local hospital needs. The Philadelphia region, as well as all of the communities served by CTS, will have greater access to tissue grafts for transplantation,” stated CBC/CTS Medical Director and CEO Judith E. Woll, MD.
CTS, an accredited member of the American Association of Tissue Banks, and ISO 9000:2001 registered, began operations in 1986 and is currently one of the largest US tissue banks, distributing nearly 10% of the tissue grafts in the United States. CTS is the largest nonprofit provider of skin grafts to surgeons for severe burn patients. With the addition of the Philadelphia operation, CTS will be serving a total population of nearly 20 million. CTS serves the public through procurement, processing and distribution of human tissue for transplantation. In addition, CTS provides ongoing educational opportunities for the public and health professionals, as well as education and support to donor families. Since 1994, CTS has expanded its Dayton, Ohio operations into Texas, Oregon, California, Idaho, Indiana, and Pennsylvania, with over 200 employees nationwide.
