Community Blood Center/Community Tissue Services Announces Restructuring of Management
At the March Board meeting, Community Blood Center/Community Tissue Services' (CBC/CTS) Board of Trustees approved the restructuring of senior management. Judith E. Woll, M.D. will be the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and David Smith, M.D. has been promoted to Medical Director of CBC/CTS. Prior to this position Dr. Smith was the Medical Director of Tissue Services at CBC/CTS. In his new role, Dr. Smith will oversee all physicians on staff, and medical policy decisions for CBC/CTS operations. Dr. Woll will also serve as an M.D. and will continue to participate in medical discussions with physicians.
"At this time in my career, I wanted to focus on my functions as Chief Executive Officer of Community Blood Center/Community Tissue Services. I will continue to oversee all policy, strategic, fiscal and operational assets of CBC/CTS," stated Judith E. Woll, M.D., Chief Executive Officer of CBC/CTS. "I am confident Dr. Smith will excel in his new position as Medical Director and will effectively lead the medical staff at CBC/CTS," added Dr. Woll.
Prior to joining CBC/CTS in 2003, Dr. Smith was a staff Pathologist and Director of Autopsy Services at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana. Dr. Smith began his career as a Forensic Pathologist with the Montgomery County Coroner's Office in Dayton, Ohio.
Dr. Smith earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio, followed by a Medical Doctor’s degree from the Wright State University School of Medicine in 1983. Dr. Smith served his residency at Kettering Medical Center in Dayton, followed by a fellowship in Forensic Pathology at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, Toxicology and Criminalistics in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is Board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, as well as Forensic Pathology. Recently, he attended Wright State while working on an MBA degree.
Dr. Smith is an Associate Clinical Professor of Pathology with the Wright State University School of Medicine. He is also a member of the American Association of Tissue Banks, American Association of Blood Banks and America’s Blood Centers.
Community Blood Center/Community Tissue Services, an independent, not-for-profit organization, is ISO 9001:2000 registered.
